We offer some cultural experiences unique to Japan,
and all guests are welcome to join.
Making onsen tamago, a soft-boiled egg cooked in hot spring water.
You can get familiar with hot spring culture and have fun making a delicious onsen tamago. One person can cook one egg for free, and it takes about 30 minutes. Enjoy a delicious, still-runny, freshly made onsen tamago.
Tea ceremony experience
Enjoy a free tea ceremony experience in our tea ceremony room. Sit up straight atop the tatami mats and enjoy a moment of peace and serenity with a cup of Japanese tea. This experience is very popular, especially with women.

our master chef makes a wide variety of delicious dishes with confidence.

I devote all of my energy to the meals. A colorful presentation, ingredients that show the charms of Fukui, an abundance of flavors—I aim to please our guests with a whole course of dishes so that they feel happy with their meals.

Highly recommended dishes at Matuya Sensen
Add extra dishes to the regular full-course meals and enjoy a luxurious time tasting delicious local flavors.
Options include Echizen crabs (winter only), sashimi (raw seafood), and more.
Echizen crabs caught here in Fukui Prefecture have an extraordinary taste. Enjoy seafood nurtured by the warm and cold tides and the complexed flow of the ocean.
Ingredients unique to this area, including Koshihikari rice, Wakasa beef, and Fukui pork, are raised in a careful manner amidst bountiful nature and a climate with the seasons. Enjoy a range of ingredients that you can only taste here.
We also have a selection of local sake from all over Fukui Prefecture. Even the seasoning we use is locally produced, and our dishes preserve the natural flavors of the sea, mountain, and fields of Fukui Prefecture.
Sen no Sachi Seasonal Dining
A dining space with an open kitchen where you can taste a variety of colorful dishes.
Dinner: From 17:00, last order at 19:00
Breakfast: From 7:00, last order at 8:30
Gottsuo-tei Hana Hana
Have a casual meal at tables and chairs, Western style (tatami floor seating also available). Table seats are wheelchair-accessible.
Note: The restaurant serves as an izakaya from 21:00 to midnight.
Zen & Saron Chiyomigusa
This dining hall is exclusively for guests staying on the special floor, Hanareza. The highest-grade ingredients and meals in our ryokan are served here.

An exclusive dining hall and Hanareza’s original kaiseki cuisine
Eat your fill of locally produced seasonal ingredients at Chiyomigusa, a dining hall exclusively for guests staying in Hanareza. Enjoy some leisurely conversation over your meal in our quiet parlor.
Looking to treat yourself a little bit? Spending some leisurely, relaxing time in Sensen-Kan is just the treat you need.
This wing offers three types of rooms—standard rooms, Western-style twin rooms, and special rooms.
Renovated in 1999, this wing offers Matuya Sensen’s standard Japanese-style rooms, and is recommended for guests who want a more casual ryokan experience.

- All rooms have their own bathroom, tub, and shower, as well as an air conditioning and heating unit, a TV, and a refrigerator. Toilets are equipped with warm-water bidets.

Our men's bathing area is large and extravagant, perfect for a long, leisurely soak.
Our women’s bathing area offers a variety of baths, including a solo bath,
a ne-yu sleeping bath, and a healing sauna that offers the same benefits as a bedrock bath.
There’s also a women-only floor containing a parlor that you can enjoy fresh out of the bath, an aesthetician’s spa, and more.
Matuya Sensen boasts one of the largest baths in the Hokuriku region—enjoy trying out all the different kinds.

The men’s baths include an open-air bath and one of the largest baths in the Hokuriku region. Each of the five baths has a unique ambiance, but each offers a blissful bathing experience.
The bathing area is spacious and perfect for a nice, relaxing soak. Each wash station is sectioned off for an added sense of privacy.
Between our tsubo-yu single-person tubs, ne-yu sleeping bath, and a variety of outdoor open-air baths, there’s plenty of hot water to go around.
Feel the silky-smooth hot water on your skin, and try out all of our different soothing baths.
Enjoy a nice, long soak in our spacious bathing area. Each wash station is sectioned off for an added sense of privacy.
You can enjoy free reign not only of our tsubo-yu and kame-yu single-person tubs, jacuzzis, and more, but also of our healing sauna, which has the same benefits as a bedrock bath.
At this aesthetician’s salon right next to the woman’s bath, you can receive aromatherapy and Bali-style treatments. Let yourself be soothed by the embrace of healing aromas.
Makeup remover and moisturizer are available in the powder room, which is divided into booths. After your bath, enjoy a sense of privacy and take your time caring for your skin. The parlor’s interior decorations blend traditional Japanese and modern design. Relax and make yourself at home. One bath towel will be provided.
